IT is only a few months until students from all over the county will be getting out their posh frocks and best suits ready to dance the night away at their school proms.

So we’ve been looking back one of the proms held in Tynedale a few years ago.

In 2021, due to Covid restrictions, some parents of Prudhoe Community High School pupils organised a makeshift prom for everyone to enjoy.

Hexham Courant:

Parents Claire Cooper, John Glen, Rachael Dixon, Louise Bennett, Sarah Allan and Louise Carr arranged the special evening at Stocksfield Cricket Club for Year 11 Prudhoe Community High School students.

At the time of the occassion, Claire Cooper said: “A lot of the kids were really disappointed when school had no choice but to cancel their original prom due to Covid restrictions.

"The pandemic has been tough for the kids, so it felt right to try and do something special for them once restrictions had eased and give them a prom they deserve.

"We set ourselves the challenge of pulling this off in five weeks. It was hard work but worth it!

Hexham Courant:

"I feel really proud to have been a part of this. We have given the kids special memories that will last a lifetime. They all seemed to have a great night!

"Stocksfield Parish Council saved the event! Finding a suitable venue was a challenge, but they went out of their way to support this event. We can’t thank them enough."

Students unable to attend the prom because of self isolation had goody bags delivered to their door the next day.

A Samba drum band also played and awards were presented to students. Those who won awards were presented with trophies, while Prom King and Prom Queen were given with gift vouchers, kindly donated by Reflections Hair Salon.

Companies that supported the prom include: Fairbairn Marquees, Millennium Events, AG Events, Aarron Lodge Entertainments, Zoe Emilie Photography, A Batida Da Rua (Samba drum ban, Quality Cleaning Company and Aldi Prudhoe.
