WINNERS of GQ Magazine's Food and Drink Awards 2023 were announced in its latest edition.

The April and May issue of British GQ showed Restaurant Pine from Vallum Farm was among the winners at the ninth annual awards ceremony, presented by Veuve Clicquot and Belvedere Vodka.

The restaurant won the Sustainability Award.

Titans from the hospitality industry came together to crown the winners and celebrate their achievements across 14 categories.

These included awards for Best Chef; Best Pub; Best Front of House; Best Bartender; Sustainability Award; Lifetime Achievement Award and Veuve Clicquot Innovator.

Each category winner was presented with an engraved ice bucket courtesy of LSA International, plus a magnum of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label.

The judging panel comprised experts from the hospitality, media and food and drinks industries.

This year’s panel included Adam Baidawi, deputy global editorial director and head of editorial content at British GQ, Alexei Rosin, MD for Moët Hennessy in the UK and Ireland, and acclaimed chefs and food critics.

With nine tables set inside an old, converted cow barn on a farm overlooking the countryside next to Hadrian’s Wall, Pine proved to be an education, with an ethos that captivated GQ’s judges.

Pine is one of only several UK restaurants to be recognised with a Michelin Green star for Sustainability, which it achieved alongside its first Michelin star within eight months of opening in 2022, successfully retaining both at this year’s awards held last month at Silverstone Circuit.

Chef patron Cal Byerley and co-owner and front-of-house manager Sian Buchan said: "This award is huge for us. Pine is all about the food we create, but it’s also about how we source, grow, rear and nurture that produce.

"We’re hugely conscious of the role that we can play in helping to significantly reduce the impact our business has on the environment, especially through the supply chain decisions we make. But it’s much wider than that, when you start to look at it properly, especially when you begin to realise that you can also play a role in and positively impacting some aspects of community life too through the business decisions you make.’’
