A girl celebrated the end of her fundraising challenge with a chippy tea and ice cream after raising money for a charity close to her heart.

Megan Robinson, from Prudhoe, at six years old has completed her challenge of walking 151 miles throughout March to raise money for brain tumor awareness month in memory of her grandad who died in 2020.

Hexham Courant:

So far she has raised £1,300 for The Brain Tumour Charity and is still continuing to take donations.

Megan first began 'Meg's Miles' at just four years old and did 100 miles but wanted to do better.

Hence the new challenge of 151 miles - to double the age of what her grandad would have been.

Reflecting on her challenge, Megan's Mam, Hayley Dickinson said: "She did it!

"Megan managed to do 151.41 miles over the month of March with the final walk after school from Ponteland leisure centre up the old railway line to the airport then a loop down past Dobbies and along Cheviot View into the village and back up the starting point.

"She was met by family friend Tasmin, Daddy, Grandma, her siblings (Abigail and Seth) and school friend Eden and her mum Deb.

Hexham Courant:

"She battled through all types of weather such as hail and snow, sleet and wind, rain and shine just to do the miles.

"Although there were a few tears and tantrums when she felt like giving up, she carried on after remembering what she was doing it for.

Hexham Courant:

"This girl is just amazing and her longest walk during the month was 10 miles from Throckley down onto Newburn riverside and all the way along the cycle route into Newcastle. Heading to the quayside first before powering up Dene Street to the monument and finally to Central Station to catch the bus home.

"We are super proud of what she has achieved - one very special little lady raising funds for The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of her Grandpa Andrew Robinson who was from Ponteland.

"She celebrated with a giant cookie, an ice cream from Tony Marcella of Tony’s Iced, and a chippy tea - which was well earned I say."
