PLANS to convert a former bakery into a one-bedroom home have been submitted to Northumberland County Council.

The building on land south of 1 Tyne View Road in Haltwhistle has been vacant since the late 1970's when the bakery ceased operations.

According to a design and access statement submitted by planning consultants Lambert Smith Hampton, the property's ground floor would be divided into a living and a kitchen/dining area, while the existing outbuilding would be converted for WC facilities and storage space.

The second floor would comprise of a single bedroom with ensuite WC and shower facilities.

Externally, all existing windows would be replaced with new uPVC windows whilst new Velux skylights would be installed at roof level.

The existing door on the northern elevation would be bricked up and a new door wiould be installed on the western elevation of the annex building to avoid 'mutual overlooking' between existing residents at 1 Tyne View Road, the design and access statement added.

The property is subject to an implemented planning consent for a holiday-let.

"In this regard, the use of the property as a holiday-let could have a detrimental impact on the amenity of existing residents as a result of, for example, different guests arriving and departing at night and on weekends, often with luggage, which would create a higher level of noise and disturbance," the design and access statement said.

"Thus, the long-term occupation of the property by a single occupier would result in a better standard of amenity for existing residents than the use of the property as a holiday-let."
