THE public toilets at St Mary's Wynd in Hexham are set to re-open this summer.
It was announced last year that the facilities, which have been closed since 2017, would be fully refurbished.
The improvements are part of a wider £1.35m three-year programme of works to improve the standard of public toilets in Northumberland for which the council has responsibility.
The facilities at Wentworth car park are among the other public toilets in the county which will be fully refurbished and modernised.
A council spokesman has now confirmed preliminary works are taking place this week at the St Mary's Wynd facilities with utility companies, ahead of the main works beginning in mid-April. They are due to open this June, ahead of the main tourist season.
The council spokesman added that once this work is completed, it will enable them to consider when to schedule the improvements to the Wentworth facilities, ensuring any disruption during busy visitor periods is minimised.
