ANOTHER yellow weather warning for snow and ice affecting the North East has been issued.

Rain, sleet and snow followed by ice are likely to cause some impacts to travel this evening, the Met Office has said.

The warning will come into force at 5pm tonight (Monday, March 13) and will remain in place until 10am tomorrow (Tuesday, March 14).

The Met Office said: "An area of rain will turn to sleet and snow from the north, initially over Scotland, and then over northern England during Monday evening.

"Accumulating snow will mostly be above 200-300 m, but possibly to lower levels in Scotland for a time, with 2-5 cm in places. Sleet and snow clearing southeastwards overnight into Tuesday, with temperatures then falling and ice forming, particularly on untreated surfaces."

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
