TWO of the district's boozers have been voted among the best.

Wor Local, which has two branches in Prudhoe, has been named South West Northumberland Pub of the Year by Tyneside and Northumberland Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) members.

It was also awarded the accolade of Northumberland Cider Pub of the Year.

Haltwhistle Comrades Club was also recognised in the awards as the Northumberland Club of the Year.

Among the other winners for top pub was The Curfew in Berwick for North Northumberland and The Office in Morpeth for South East Northumberland.

The Curfew, The Office and Wor Local are all micropubs.

"All three winners have a great community feel and showcase a great range of quality beer", said CAMRA chairman Paul Hillhouse.

Gateshead Pub of the Year Microbus was named overall Pub of the Year and will now go on to represent the branch at regional level, taking on the best establishments from across the North East for a place in the national final.

Paul added: "Last year, the station house in Durham made it to the last four in the country, so we would love to see the North East achieve the same success this year."

Both Wor Local and the comrades club were also recognised last year.
