A B&B is celebrating record bookings after winning a popular TV show.

The Manor House Hotel in Haltwhistle was crowned joint winner of the reality competition ‘Four in a Bed’ in February this year and is already seeing bookings filling up for the rest of the year.

The pub and guest house, which is owned by Terry and Rachel Christie, stormed to victory in a history-making week which saw two couples drop out of the competition leaving The Manor House and Orchard Glamping as joint winners.

The Manor House was all praised by the other ‘Four in a Bed’ contestants, who also visited nearby Hadrian’s Wall attraction Vindolanda Roman Fort as part of their stay.

The historic pub and guest house was in a dilapidated state and facing closure before being purchased by businessman Terry in 2018. He ploughed his life savings into The Manor House, transforming it into a gastro pub and hotel with ten double en-suite bedrooms.

The Manor House hotel holds a very special place in the hearts of both Terry and Rachel. Terry used to visit the pub during childhood holidays in the area and Rachel’s aunt and uncle used to run the pub before it was taken over by the brewery. It’s also where they first met.

Terry said: “Appearing on ‘Four in a Bed’ was a fantastic experience and certainly helped to showcase this amazing location to the rest of the UK.

"Haltwhistle has a wealth of history, wonderful walks and cycles routes close by and is only a 20-minute walk from Hadrian’s Wall’s main sites such as Cawfields quarry and Sycamore Gap so it is a wonderful place to visit and stay overnight.

“We had great fun filming and loved every minute of it. We even made history by being one of only two couples left on payment day - the first time this has ever happened on the show.

“We’ve seen huge interest since the episodes aired and bookings for 2023 look set to be our best ever.”

Rachel added: “We both love The Manor House Inn but appearing on ‘Four in a Bed’ has shown us that we’re not the only ones who think it’s number one.”
