TWO talented art students at Hexham's Queen Elizabeth High School have been awarded bursaries.

Year 13 pupil Millie Cook, who studies A-Level Fine Art, and Mina Ahmed, who is in Year 12 and studies Graphic Communication, have won the Young Artist Achievement Award 2022 from The Arts Society Hexham.

They have each received £150, which will go towards materials and supplies and help them with their portfolios.

Millie is set to study an art foundation course at Newcastle College in September when she leaves school, something which Mina also hopes to do.

The pair were presented with the awards last week in the Tynedale Farmer Function Suite at Hexham Mart ahead of the society's February lecture.

The students' work was also on display for members to view.

William Pym, art teacher at Queen Elizabeth High School, praised Millie and Mina's "fantastic work ethic" and the commitment they have shown to the subject.

"We are delighted to have a partnership with the arts society to support our students," he added.

Lucia Fisher, who is in charge of young arts at the society, said they hope to continue to support local children in years to come.

Lectures take place on the second Tuesday of each month in the Tynedale Function Rooms at Hexham Mart at 2pm, preceded by an optional lunch.

The Arts Society's next lecture, 'Medieval illuminated manuscripts', will take place on Tuesday, March 14.
