THE 50th episode of ITV's Vera will air tonight.

The hit drama based in the North East returned to our screens last month with viewers finally getting the chance to watch the last two episodes of series 11 following a mid-series break.

And fans of the show didn't need to worry about the region's favourite detective, played by Brenda Blethyn, disappearing after the end of series 11, with four episodes from series 12 following straight away.

The last of those four installments, 'The Darkest Evening' which is based on Ann Cleeves' book, will air tonight, marking the 50th episode of Vera since it was first broadcast in 2011.

The episode will see DCI Vera Stanhope come across an abandoned car with a baby inside while trying to get home on the night of a massive storm.

With no mobile signal and blocked roads at every turn, Vera is forced to seek refuge somewhere she’d rather not be, Brockburn House, the Stanhope’s ancestral pile. Vera doesn’t exactly receive a warm welcome from her estranged family as there’s a function in full swing and her turning up with a baby isn’t a great look.

Things start to look even worse and take a far sinister turn when a body is found on the track leading to Brockburn House.

You can watch tonight's episode on ITV at 8pm.
