AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of 15-year-old Holly Newton.
Holly died at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) hospital in Newcastle after she was stabbed in Hexham town centre on January 27.
The popular teenager, who lived in Haltwhistle, and a 16-year-old boy were found injured in the Priestpopple area.
They were both taken to hospital, where Holly sadly died.
The boy was discharged after spending almost a week in hospital after he sustained serious injuries.
Another 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has appeared at Newcastle Crown Court charged with murder, attempted murder, and having a knife.
The teenager is set to enter pleas at a hearing on February 27.
At Newcastle Coroner's Court on Monday afternoon, senior coroner Georgina Nolan opened and adjourned the inquest into Holly's death to a future date yet to be fixed.
