WE shared the news that Wentworth car park was to close while it got a new look.

The improvements consisted of resurfacing the car park in some areas and putting new road markings on the ground.

Here's how our readers reacted.

Anne Lawson said: "Why not spend the money on the country roads and repair the many potholes and do some resurfacing? The car park is fine as it is."

Vikki Firth said: "Quick let's waste the last of the financial year's budget on non-necessary resurfacing of a car park when the roads in Hexham and surrounding villages are shocking."

Hayley Mullins said: "It needs more parent and child spaces. The amount there is is nowhere near enough for the fact it’s a leisure centre holding many children’s activities and a Waitrose. I've been put off coming as so many times I’ve not been able to get the car doors open to get kids back in because the spaces are too narrow."

Jennie Wright said: "Rather than a new look it’s being robbed of the majority of its long stay parking. We will now have even more blue bays sitting empty and even more visitors evicted from Hexham after only four hours.

"The town has been crying out for more long stay parking and when we finally think we are getting it, instead the existing parking is to be moved half a mile away in a flood area putting yet more obstacles in the way of people trying their best to support the town," she added.

Matt Charlton said: "Maybe install some lighting? It's a miracle no child has been hit by a car on busy evenings when swimming lessons are on."
