MORE than 7,000 new apprenticeships have been created in Hexham's constituency since 2010.

Guy Opperman welcomed figures showing 7,190 new apprenticeships have been created in the Hexham constituency since 2010.

The figures come as the UK celebrates National Apprenticeship Week between February 6 to February 12.

The event is an opportunity for the education and skills sector to celebrate the achievements of apprentices around the country and the positive impact they make to communities, businesses, and the wider economy.

Apprenticeships are available across a wide range of industries, from healthcare to engineering, travel and hospitality to accountancy.

Between 2010 and 2023, 7,190 new apprenticeships were created in the Hexham constituency and over 5.3 million apprenticeships were created across England.

As well as driving up the number of people boosting their skills through apprenticeships, the Conservative Government’s reforms are aiming to improve the quality of apprenticeships. £2.3 billion of additional funding has been announced for 2023 to 2024, and from 2023 to 2025.

Guy Opperman MP said: "Apprenticeships are fantastic ways for students to enter the world of work, helping them to build new skills and gain vital industry knowledge – all while being paid.

“It is brilliant news that 7,190 new apprenticeships have been created in Hexham since 2010 thanks to successive Conservative governments – as part of the Conservative‘s drive to improve skills and productivity in our economy.

“Each new apprenticeship means another student building the skills and knowledge they need for a long and successful career."
