POLICE have patrolled the streets of Hexham in the wake of Holly Newton's death.

Extra officers have had a heightened presence in the town, as well as police on horseback, since the double stabbing on January 27.

Shortly after 5.10pm, police were informed a teenage boy and 15-year-old Holly had been injured in the Priestpopple area.

Emergency services attended the scene where they found Holly and a 16-year-old boy had been stabbed.

Holly, of Haltwhistle, died in hospital as a result of her injuries, while the teen spent almost a week in hospital.

Chief Superintendent Sam Rennison, area commander for Northumberland and North Tyneside, of Northumbria Police, said at the time: "While our enquiries continue, we do believe all those involved are known to each other and there is no wider risk to the public.

“Officers will remain in the area over the coming days and we would encourage anyone with concerns to speak directly with them.

"We are determined to find out exactly what happened and bring anyone involved to justice.

"We'd like to ask that if you did see something or have information, relating to what happened, and have not yet spoken to officers, you do contact us."
