A couple who met online celebrated their themed wedding day inspired by the TV show 'Friends'.

Catering supervisor Rachel Shanley met Ross Davis, a plant area manager, online during the lockdown in 2020.

Unlike the characters of the comedy show 'Friends', where two characters, Ross and Rachel, had a complicated relationship, the Ponteland couple had a clear pathway that led to an unexpected proposal on a trip visiting friends in London.

After the surprise engagement, the couple started to plan their hen and stag parties.

"Ross's stag was at Harry's Hatchets Axe Throwing," Rachel said.

"Whereas mine was a spa day followed by food at The Blackbird Inn in Ponteland."

Finally, the big day arrived for the couple as they gathered family and close friends together to witness their marriage at Le Petit Chateau on November 9, 2022.

Rachel said: "The whole theme was of the show Friends, as we are called Ross and Rachel.

"Everything was perfect. The speeches and when my dad first saw me in my dress were my favourite moments of the day.

"I wore a full glitter underskirt and lacy sweetheart neckline as I walked down the aisle to meet Ross, who wore a light grey suit with a grey check waistcoat.

"Ross's best man was his best friend, Euan, my maid of honour was my best friend, Becky.

"Our page boys were eight-year-olds Callum and Rory and four-year-old Elliot, and our bridesmaids were Abbey and Isobel, with the flower girls being Grace and Poppy, both aged four."

After the wedding ceremony, the pair and 55 of their guests enjoyed a Spanish feast and bbq, entertainment and Irish dancers from The Kelly Hendry School.

Guests were also given a gift from the day, which was lavender-infused soaps made by the couple's friend and 'Bee Bomb seed packets' that they made themselves.

After the wedding, the couple decided to revisit their special place.

Rachel said: "For our honeymoon, we went to a lodge near Alnwick.

"We got one with a hot tub and revisited Bamburgh, where we had our first date."
