A CARE home that was told it needed to improve last year has now received an overall 'good' rating.

Ponteland Manor Care Home had received a 'requires improvement' rating after it was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in February last year.

But following another inspection in November, the care home is now rated as 'good' in all five key areas.

A report, published last week, said that after breaches of regulation were found earlier in 2022, the care home's provider, Care UK Community Partnerships Ltd, had completed an action plan to show what they would do and by when to improve.

It said at this unannounced inspection, they found the service was well-led and safe, and said the provider was no longer in breach of any regulations.

The report said they were assured that the provider was preventing visitors from catching and spreading infections and that systems were in place to ensure medicines were managed safely.

It added that systems were also in place to protect people from the risk of abuse.

"People told us they felt safe and relatives confirmed this," the report said. "A person told us, 'I'm well cared for and well looked after.' A relative said, "The safety [at the home] is very good and I feel people are 100% safe'."

The care home's manager, Paula Routledge, completed daily 'walkarounds' in the home to monitor quality and "promoted a positive culture which was person centred to the needs of people," the report added.

Ms Routledge said: "It’s wonderful to have gained a ‘Good’ rating and it is a testament to our team’s hard work.

"We’re also looking forward to celebrating this wonderful achievement at our upcoming 25th anniversary party which the whole community will be invited to."

Ponteland Manor Care Home provides nursing care and accommodation for up to 52 people. At the time of the recent inspection, 47 people were living at the home on Thornhill Road.
