THEY say good things come to those who wait and that was definitely the case for veteran Scottish jockey Will Ramsay, 53, who recorded his first double for 27 years at the West Percy Point-to-Point fixture on Sunday.

The Tony Dobbin-trained Coole Hall set the ball rolling for Ramsay in the Carrs Billington NPPA Conditions Race. Always close up behind the pace-setting Ballydonagh Boy (Rosie Howarth), his mount hit the front after two out and stayed on strongly to score by one-and-a-half lengths from Cool Desire (John Dawson).

Ramsay said: ''He jumped and travelled well all the way and will return here for the Percy meeting on January 29. I'm delighted to finally ride my 25th career winner under all codes and would love to win the Grand Military Gold Cup at Sandown Park before I retire.''

Ramsay's red letter day was completed by the unfancied Diable De Sivola in the Red Lion Men's Open Race. His decision to employ catch-me-if-you-can tactics paid dividends as the 10-year-old galloped his six rivals into submission in the best time of the day. Jetaway Joey (Jack Andrews) threw down a big challenge from two out but Ramsay's mount kept finding a bit extra when it mattered and still had a length in hand at the line. Both of Ramsay's winners were ending long losing runs, with Coole Hall's last success over hurdles coming in January 2018 while Diable De Sivola's only previous victory was in July 2016 at Uttoxeter.

Odds-on favourite Go Go Geronimo landed the Rose Dobbin Racing Conditions Race in bloodless fashion under Tom Chatfeild-Roberts. Dictating matters up front from the fourth, the 8-year-old maintained a relentless gallop and had the contest sewn up before three out, eventually coasting home twenty four lengths ahead of Clondaw Anchor (Christy Furness).

The gelding's trainer Kelly Morgan said: ''He might come back here in three weeks for the Percy Intermediate Race and then run in the Cheltenham Foxhunters' Chase on March 17.''

Recent Border scorer Oscar Wilde was backed down from 4/1 to 5/4 in the 12-runner Oates Rural Ladies Open Race and duly delivered the goods in great style under Amy Coltherd. After powering clear up the hill after four out, the outcome was never in doubt and the progressive 10-year-old heads to Friars Haugh on January 22 in search of a hat-trick.

A 500-mile round trip by Warwickshire-based champion trainer Tom Ellis was rewarded with a double courtesy of debutants Whosmydaddy and Latenightrumble, both ridden by Jack Andrews.

The former gradually warmed to his task before brushing aside more experienced rivals in the PJR Blewitt Ltd Restricted Race and his next assignment will be at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale on January 28, while the well-related Latenightrumble left owner/breeder Pippa Ellis lost for words after an unexpected debut victory in the concluding 12-runner Geoff Allan Catering Maiden Race. Ellis has now sent out 16 winners from 24 runners at Alnwick since making his first visit to the track in January 2019.
