TYNEDALE has changed quite a great deal over the last 10 years, with various housing, school and retail developments being completed.

We've taken a trip down memory lane using pictures from Google Maps taken around 2012 and 2022.

Hexham

Hexham Gate Retail Park

The retail park, which features a Travelodge hotel, Lidl and McDonald's, was completed earlier this year.

The following images are from 2015, before work on the development began, and 2021, during construction.

Tyne Valley Retail Park

The Tyne Valley Retail Park in Hexham, next to the town's railway station, was also built in the last 10 years.

The development at the former goods yard was completed in 2014.

Bridge End

In 2016, permission was granted for the long-awaited 24-hour filling station, complete with Spar convenience store, a Starbucks drive-thru and food-to-go concessions from Subway and Greggs at the former Fewster’s site at Bridge End.

Park Well Estate

The 16-home Park Well estate, off Corbridge Road, was built in 2017.

The Woodland Rise and Anick View housing developments, also off Corbridge Road, were also completed in recent years.

A69 at Hexham

The A69 Bridge End roundabout scheme was finally completed this year.

The National Highways led project, which began in 2019, saw the existing mainline sunk below the roundabout to provide free-flowing east-west traffic along the A69 in Hexham.

Hexham Bus Station

Hexham's new bus station, at Loosing Hill, opened to the public in 2016.

These Google images show the site of the station in 2015 and 2022.

The town's former bus station, on Priestpopple, is still on the market.

Other developments completed in the town over this period include the £37 million redevelopment project of Queen Elizabeth High School and Hexham Middle School.

Another development - the complex of flats at the former swimming pool site in Hexham - is due to be completed in 2023.

Prudhoe

Tyneview Retail Park

The retail park, on the A695 Princess Way, is home to an Aldi, B&M, Greggs, McDonald's and Caffe Ginevra.

It opened in 2021.

Cottier Grange

The 404-home estate, on the old Prudhoe Hospital site, is another housing development that has been completed in the Tyne Valley in recent years.

Prudhoe Community High School

Prudhoe Community High School unveiled its brand new building to pupils in 2016.

The purpose-built school building is sited on the football pitches of the old school, on Moor Road.

Haltwhistle

Haltwhistle Memorial Hospital

The hospital was built to remember the fallen of the First World War but was rebuilt and opened in 2015.

The following Google images are from 2011 and 2021.

Other developments in the town in recent years include the multi-million pound refurbishment of Haltwhistle Academy Primary School. Work was completed in 2021.

A major project to revive redundant buildings at Haltwhistle railway station is ongoing. The works are due to be completed in the near future.

Ponteland

Ponteland schools development

A school and leisure complex opened in 2020 on Callerton Lane, where the playpark and skate park used to be.

The site is now the home of Ponteland High School and Ponteland Primary School, as well as a state-of-the-art leisure centre.

A new housing development on the site of the former Northumbria Police headquarters in Ponteland was also completed in 2021.
