Organisers of two Christmas tree festivals are celebrating the success of the community involvement in the annual tradition.

Allen Valleys Churches held two Christmas Tree festivals this year, at St Cuthbert’s Allendale, and St Mark’s Ninebanks near Hexham, where 35 trees were on display.

Hexham Courant:

A spokesperson from the church said: "Allen Valleys Churches held two Christmas Tree festivals this year, one at St Cuthbert’s Allendale and the other at St Mark’s Ninebanks, bringing much festive joy.

"The first prize which was decided by public vote and went to Allendale Community Fire Station and Crew, and Marina for her Isaac’s Tea Trail tree at St Mark’s.

"We have had a couple of Christmas Tree Festivals in St Cuthbert’s over the last 17 years.

Hexham Courant:

"All of these festivals have been wonderful events, and very popular, bringing together Church and Community in both the East and West Allen Valleys and creating much joy and excitement.

"There are some very creative and imaginative individuals and groups/organisations in the Allen Valleys.

"A big thankyou to community groups and organisations for all the wonderful decorated Christmas Trees, thirty five in all, each one telling a story.

"Winners were announced at our Nine Lessons and Carols service with mince pies, merriment and mulled wine.

"There’s still time to view the trees, up until Boxing Day."
