An MP is celebrating small businesses from across Tynedale and Ponteland by handing out awards nominated by the community.
To recognise the hard work of businesses, Guy Opperman asked the local communtiy for who they think 'goes above and beyond' for the community for his Small Business Award.
After a few weeks, Mr Opperman received hundreds of nominations across the Hexham Constituency.
To celebrate Small Business Saturday, the MP visited some of the businesses nominated for the award.
The MP presented his Small Business Award to Rochester Relish – the last café in England, Barrasford Village Shop, Sophistikaty’s Hair and Beauty in Prudhoe, My Little Kingdom Day Nursery in Prudhoe and Jan’s Kitchen in Ponteland.
Additionally, in a video, the Business Secretary, Grant Shapps praised Rochester Relish and Jan’s Kitchen in Ponteland for being ‘the backbone’ of local communities across Tynedale and Ponteland.
Mr Opperman adds: “I have had the opportunity to support, thank and celebrate our great local small businesses.
"If you can, please shop locally to ensure our fantastic local businesses are supported.”
Prudhoe Councillor Gordon Stewart accompanied Mr Opperman arround the town and said:"Great local businesses are at the heart of any community.
"Prudhoe has a wide range of these which are treasured by residents & they also attract visitors to the town.
"Therefore supporting employment opportunities and the local economy."
