A young girl has been praised for continuing her annual community work by selling poppy seeds for Rememberance Day.

Every year, 11-year-old Macie Stead of Bardon Mill tries to raise as much funds as she can for The Royal British Legion.

It is something she started in 2020 and has done it every year - with no intention of stopping.

"I started making keyrings when we were in lockdown to help raise money for the poppy appeal." Macie said.

"I noticed that charities didn't get to raise as much when people weren't allowed to get together for events and fundraisers.

"They were very popular so in 2021 I made them again and added poppy seeds for donations.

"This year I made poppy brooches as well, mum helped with some of the stitching to make sure they were secure.

"I enjoy using the glue gun!

"I've got requests for purple brooches for next year, to remember animals of war.

"This year I raised £97.50 and which will go to The Royal British Legion.

Praising her daughters efforts, her mum Debbie Finlayson adds: "We are proud of Macie, she is a well known member of the community, often seen helping at events.

"She enjoys crafting and coming up with new ideas."
