A community group organised a trip to pay their respects to a First World War Memorial on Remembrance weekend.
On Sunday, November 6 Friends of Keenley Methodist Chapel visited the Shepherds’ Cairn on Plenmeller Common, to pay respects to the local War Memorial that was created by shepherds.
"The men served mostly as volunteers with the Northumberland Fusiliers, recruited from around the Tyne Valley and the surrounding fells," One of the group organisers, Roger Morris said.
"It was important to visit the site as the year 2022 is close to the cairn’s 100th anniversary, where it has withstood the worst of the elements, as well as the threat posed from open cast coal mining in the 1980s.
"We met at Keenley Chapel and car shared for the drive over to Plenmeller, where we had the start of our walk with David Bates.
"It took around 35 minutes. It put some colour in our cheeks and was good exercise."
