HEXHAM is set to enjoy an evening of festive fun on Friday, November 25.

After Father Christmas switches on the Christmas lights at 5pm, there will be late-night shopping in the town, with various offers and treats available.

Entertainment and stalls selling mince pies, hot dogs, mulled wine and hot chocolate at the Bandstand will be present throughout the event.

The evening will also see the launch of the Magical Movie trail, organised by Roya Manouchehri, owner of clothing store Ralph & Mimi.

More than 60 businesses will be involved in the trail, and each will display an image, quote or dressed window related to a particular film.

Residents are being asked to venture around to try and guess the movies, with one person able to win a huge hamper of goodies.

Every business involved has donated a gift, with prizes including various gift vouchers, jewellery and confectionery.

People will be able to pick up a pamphlet and follow the free trail that evening, but it will remain open until December 17 for those wishing to take part in their own time.

The prize winner will be announced on December 19.

The trail is supported by the Hexham Culture Network on behalf of the Hexham High Street Heritage Action Zone.

The lights switch-on event, organised by Hexham Town Council, will begin at 4.15pm in the park with music from HMS Orchestra.
