HEXHAM Constituency Labour Party has a new chair.

On Thursday (November 10), their annual meeting was held at the Beaumont Hotel.

Members elected a new chair, John Hanley, of the Bywell branch.

Mr Hanley said: "It’s a great honour to be elected Chair of Hexham CLP.

"There was an excellent turnout for the AGM and we have seen a rapid increase in new members recently.

"We are planning a vigorous campaign to get a Labour MP elected in Hexham at the next General Election. Recent polls are very encouraging and we are getting an excellent reception when we are out campaigning on the doorstep.

"It’s time for change after 12 years of Conservative rule. As the current cost of living crisis starts to impact on so many people, it’s time for the alternative which a Labour Government would bring."

Camille Mazarelo, of the Prudhoe branch, was elected as vice-chair and Michael Clarke, of the Heddon & Ponteland Branch, will be the new secretary.
