STAFF members, trustees and parents at a Tynedale nursery have raised more than £1,200 after taking on a range of outdoor challenges.

They have collectively travelled over 2,200km this summer to raise money for Little Oaks Nursery in Acomb, which is a charity.

The team of both adults and children walked, ran, cycled and kayaked their way around the North East and Scotland.

Little Oaks Manager Catherine Fergus walked over 115km in July, starting and finishing in Orkney, while trustee Louise Phillipson and her family kayaked 25km on the River Tyne.

Treasurer Ellen Thompson walked with her daughters across fells, moors and dales in Northumberland, Durham and Cumbria, covering 1500km.

Most recently, parents and trustees Aly Johnson and Sam Tranter completed the Great North Run in just over 2hrs and Chairwoman Amanda Wilson clocked up 250km by bike, supported by her family.

Ms Wilson said: "Many of us have been touched by Little Oaks over the 20 years since it was founded.

"As a charity, Little Oaks relies on fundraising and events to make it possible to keep costs low and we hugely appreciate our community’s continued support and generosity."

The £1,270 raised will pay for specialist creative sessions, first aid training for staff and support for children with additional needs.
