A CHAT Room has been opened to offer people a space for a chat and a coffee.

On Saturday, October 1 the Chat Room was opened on Alston Front Street, opposite the Town Hall.

Eden District Councillor Lissie Sharp cut the ribbon to officially declare it open, saying she hoped it would be of great benefit to locals and visitors alike.

It is not a café (the only food being offered is a biscuit), but somewhere for people to pop in and have a chat over a cup of tea or coffee.

The opening hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 12pm, and 2pm to 4pm.

Everyone is most welcome – everything is free and it is a cosy space to pass the time of day, especially through the coming winter when people are concerned about fuel costs.

The venue will be staffed by volunteers, who would love to welcome you with a cuppa and a smile.
