BE part of Hexham marketplace's 800th anniversary celebrations.

Hexham High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) are looking for residents to share memories of Hexham marketplace on Saturday, September 24.

County Councillor for Hexham East Suzanne Fairless-Aitken said: "I'm hoping the people of Hexham really get behind this - we need your stories.

"Stories are the stuff of life and were the focus of marketplaces in the past – they were places where gossip was passed on, secret trysts were had, business conducted.

"Whether it's of Carole's cheery voice during lockdown calling 'three punnets for a pound', our annual Christmas tree glittering in the corner, or memories of dancing round the market cross after a good night out at one of our local watering holes.

"We need your tales of our marketplace over the generations to weave together to celebrate an amazing 800 years since the Royal Charter was granted, right up to Hexham being declared the happiest place to live."

People would be interviewed and filmed by HexhamTV in the Forum Cinema cafe between 2.15 to 3.30pm, and pairs can be interviewed together.

Memories from the 1940's and 1950's are ideal but those up to the turn of the century are welcome.

CH Events will hold their monthly indoor market at Hexham Abbey on Saturday from 10am until 3pm, with around 30 local traders attending.
