TICKETS for a free screening of the Queen's funeral in Northumberland have sold out.

Vue cinema chain has suspended its normal programming on Monday, September 19 to honour the late Elizabeth II.

Reservations for free seats have sold out at the Vue Cramlington, at Manor Walks shopping centre, and Vue Gateshead on Trinity Square.

The Forum Cinema in Hexham will be closed all day it said, while Everyman Cinema Newcastle will open after 5pm.

Newcastle's Tyneside Cinema will be closed all day.

"As we continue to join the nation in mourning the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, our thoughts are with the Royal Family and many others who will be saddened by her death", a Vue statement said.

"The Queen was renowned for her support of the UK’s creative industries, having been patron of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Royal Variety Charity and the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund.

"Over the years, The Queen visited countless film organisations, supporting their efforts by highlighting the work they do.

"We will be screening the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in selected UK venues on Monday, September 19, live from 10am.

"Seats will be free of charge and our retail offering on this day will be limited to complimentary bottled water during the broadcast, with no other snacks or drinks available for purchase.

"On this day we will not be showing our normal programme of films.

"We look forward to coming together as a community to honour the remarkable life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

Other cinema chains including Cineworld, Odeon and Showcase will shut their sites and reopen on Tuesday, September 20.
