A town's 'twin town' presented a banner to mark upcoming celebrations.

Hexham Mayor Derek Kennedy and several representatives visited the French town of Noyon, to present a banner of the up-coming anniversary of Hexham's Market - which will be on Saturday, September 24.

The banner was designed by by Belle Burdon, a student at Queen Elizabeth High School, who won the competition set by Derek Kennedy who asked pupils for banner design for the anniversary celebrations.

Other celebrations this year marks 30 years of Hexham being paired with Noyon.

Reflecting on the visit, Derek said: “It was wonderful to be in the presence of Noyon, Hexham’s twin town and we thank Mayor of Noyon Madame Sandrine Dauchelle and the hosts for their friendship.

"I presented Hexham’s Market 800 years banner to the Noyon Mayor as a gift and to celebrate our historical culture.” 

"A remider for those who do not know, on 24 September at midday Hexham’s market will celebrate 800 years.

"The free event which will give people a historical tour of the key events in our history. Titled the Time Travellers Flash mob, story telling, singing and dancing will take you through the signing of the market charter."
