A PARISH council has condemned anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Wylam.

Wylam Parish Council said there had been several incidents in the village concerning stones being thrown at vehicles, 'tombstoning' from Ponts Bridge and use of disposable BBQs in hot weather.

The parish council also said it was aware of instances of camping and litter on Haughs Nature Reserve, where a campfire was also lit.

Police have been informed, the parish council said.

The village is subject to a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) after the area experienced a significant increase in ASB in the first national lockdown.

The authority also confirmed it was in discussion with Northumberland County Council about removing graffiti left on Ponts Bridge and a burnt-out car off Ovingham Road.

It comes amid recent reports of ASB in Hexham and Ponteland.

"The council welcomes the support of the community in reporting issues of anti-social behaviour", said a spokeswoman for Northumberland County Council.

“We also recognise how the behaviour of a small minority can have a detrimental impact on the quality of life in our communities and we work closely with our partners to address all issues raised.”

Northumbria Police has been contacted for comment.
