A WEST Cumbrian veterinary group has warned dog owners of the 'immediate actions' to take if their pet has been exposed to blue green.
The blue green algae , which has now been found in many of the counties Lakes, can be toxic to humans and lethal to animals.
Millcroft Veterinary Practice,based in Cockermouth, issued a statement on their social media advising dog owners to wash their animals immediately if they had suspicion their pet had been exposed to blooms of the algae.
A spokesman said: "Please be aware that the presence of blue green algae in nearby lakes has been confirmed by the Environment Agency.
"Loweswater, Bassenthwaite, Derwentwater (and Ullswater, Thirlmere and Windermere) are affected as of August 2022.
"Immediate actions to take if your dog may have been exposed to blooms is to hose down with fresh water and then contact us for further advice."
