A CHARITY day in Prudhoe will raise awareness of ovarian cancer.

Mother of two Clair Watson, 45, was diagnosed earlier this year. She has since found out her cancer is incurable.

Clair’s family are now hosting an event at the town’s Adam & Eve in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The charity also helped Clair’s mum before she died of cancer.

“She’s been so brave – braver than any of us”, said sister Julia Watson, of Prudhoe. “She’s been our rock while it’s her that’s going through it.

“She knows it’s never going to get any better but with chemo, that will prolong her life. But we know, eventually, it will end her life.

“We want her to have the best life that she’s got left.”

Julia’s eldest son, an employee at the Adam, will shave his hair at the event, which will also have a fancy dress competition, live music and inflatables.

Some of the money raised will go towards memory making for Clair and children Alfie,8, and 24-year-old Jade.

Local businesses have also contributed to a raffle and a street food stall will boost donations.

Clair’s other sister, Leanne Gallagher, added: “Ovarian cancer is a killer and it’s to share awareness. People need to be aware you can live with it for months or years and not know.

“There are people out there suffering and they need a little bit of support.

“It’s about everyone getting together and having an amazing day with their children and family members and people who have suffered over the years with cancer, it’s to show them we’re all behind them. They’re not alone.”

The event will run from 1pm on August 20.

“We’re chuffed to be hosting it”, said Barry Young, of the Adam & Eve, but also a childhood friend of the family. “Anything we can do for the local community.

“Obviously, it has a bit more of a personal attachment for me because I’m friends with Clair.

“It should be a good day.”

In April, the Adam & Eve, on Station Road, was named Pub of the Year in the North England Prestige Awards.
