ORGANISERS of Slaley Show are putting the final touches in place ahead of its return this weekend.

The Slaley Show Society will stage the show at Townhead Field on Saturday.

Horse riding competitions will be staged throughout the day - and alpacas, dogs, and ferrets will compete for prizes.

The field will be packed with child-friendly attractions while the main ring offers a falconry display, a sheep dog and duck demonstration, dog racing, a parade of beagles and pony fancy dress.

Show chairman Marge Rastall said: "There will be much to interest adults too.

"Vintage cars, traditional sheep showing, and the best supported exhibition marquee in the region – it will offer over 1,000 individual entries – are all on offer.

"On top of this there will be equestrian events including show jumping, a craft tent, Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling and ferret racing.

"We have stuck to its winning formula and are confident this year's event will be enjoyed by visitors and village people alike.

"The only thing that is missing is our regular dog show which has been held over until next year. All classes have been cancelled. We apologise for this but they were impossible to fit in this time round."

"However, the importance we attach to entertaining children continues. Specially designed attractions include face painting, Punch and Judy, Vikings on stilts, a Bouncy Castle, Hook-a-Duck and a children-only, open-entry, sports competition."

Adult tickets cost £10 and children under 12 have free admission.

Free car parking will be available.
