MP GUY Opperman has welcomed a son with wife Flora.

In a tweet, the Hexham and Ponteland MP introduced Christopher Coleman Opperman to his followers with a series of family photos.

Christopher has been called Kitto for many months, he said.

Hexham Courant:

He added: "Know that you will always be loved little man.

"Kitto will always be our third child. Sadly, our twin boys did not make it, being born too soon for this world. They are loved, and never forgotten but, for now, we celebrate a long journey to parenting."

The Conservative MP, who was the 51st MP to resign from Boris Johnson's government, only to later be reinstated in a Department for Work and Pensions caretaker role, also thanked staff at Guy's and Thomas' hospital in London, saying: "Massive thanks to Guy's and St Thomas' NHS, after a long journey to this place, and a long week in hospital.

"Huge thanks to all the team from IVF to delivery. Mum and babe doing fine."

Mr Opperman and wife Flora lost their twins during lockdown 2020.

At the time, he said: "Teddy came and went from this world quickly and quietly. He passed peacefully.

“Our younger twin, Rafe, was not born until Tuesday 23, but died later that day in Neonatal ICU.

“Baby loss, and coping with grief, is very hard.”

“The loss of our younger twin Rafe was particularly acute. He lived and died within a long day. But we treasure our time with him in Neonatal ICU. We were able to tell him of all our hopes and dreams for him, and our family; but he could not make it and died in Flora’s arms.

“We are grateful to the NHS doctors and nurses who tried to save our boys."

The MP was not able to support his family during the height of the pandemic, leading him to criticise Prime Minister Boris Johnson who was found to have attended parties in Downing Street while Covid restrictions were in place.

The couple raised over £28,000 after their sons' deaths to support research into Prelabor Rupture of Membranes (PPROM). The couple said further research would, hopefully, prevent other families from experiencing the pain they had.
