A couple with a passion for history decided to fill what they loved on their wedding day, marrying in 14th Century Fortified Castle and visiting Hadrian's Wall for wedding photographs.

Opting for a stress-free day, Neil and Clare Robinson decided to elope to Langley castle on July 6, with only castle staff to witness the ceremony.

A decision was not made quickly not to have friends and family on the big day, but the couple from Hampshire knew from day one exactly what they wanted.

Neil, a policeman, explains how they came to a decision.

He said: "We decided to elope because we wanted an intimate ceremony and to keep it about us, no stress."

Not only did making the decision to get married by themselves, but it also allowed them to spend the day exploring historical tourist spots, which was what they did on their first date.

"We met through a dating site two years ago, "Clare, a housing officer, recalls.

"We both loved history, then made plans for our first date, which was a walk around some Abbey ruins and pillboxes."

With the two finding something in common, they decided to see if they would go further in a relationship after many successful dates.

The pair were happy, and Neil knew Clare was the one - so he set himself on a mission to find a way to propose without her being suspicious.

"A few months later, Neil decided to propose at home - it was a huge surprise, but of course, I said yes."

After the proposal, the couple made plans with friends and family for the hen and stag do before eloping.

Neil said: "Clare had a hen weekend in Bournemouth whereas mine was in Bristol."

Two years later, on the day Neil and Clare met online, it was time for them to get married.

Despite not having the weather for the day, nothing ruined the moment between the two.

"Despite being very grey, windy and rainy, it was one of the funniest and most memorable experiences," Clare said.

"We loved the castle and the photos we had taken there but decided to also go to Hadrian's wall for photos.

"We had the best day, and to continue our passion for history- we had a honeymoon in Rome."
