THE BBC has released tens of thousands of archive videos from across the UK to mark its centenary.

The previously unavailable footage, which shows life in the country in years gone by, has been released on their new BBC Rewind website.

This is the largest release of digital archive content in BBC history, categorised by the nations and regions of the UK and containing many emotional and powerful stories, many of which have not been viewed since their original broadcast.

Video clips of Tynedale include a look at pioneers of science and invention in the North East in 1997, which features Wylam as the former home of George Stephenson and Charles Parsons.

Wylam also featured in a Look North programme in 1977 when housing estate Blackett Court won an architectural award.

A Look North programme from 1982 also features the women's rowing club from Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham, which had seen a recent spate of success.
