WE asked our readers for their favourite golf courses in Tynedale. Here's what they said.

1 Haltwhistle Golf Club

Several readers recommended the course at Haltwhistle Golf Club.

"Great condition and very cheap," one reader said.

Another said: "Haltwhistle is awesome."

The course has views over the South Tyne Valley, east to Haltwhistle, and beyond.

The 18 hole, 5,532 yard, par 69 golf course has well maintained greens and is steeped in the Borders Reivers and Roman history. 

2 Tyneside Golf Club

"Without a doubt one of the best in the North East.

"Great professionals there, very welcoming club house and great facilities including off grass driving range," one reader said.

Another agreed, saying "Tyneside is the best club in the North East."

The club is among the oldest in the North East, having been established in 1879 and is renowned for the quality of its greens and the free draining nature of the land, which means it is playable year round.

3 Allendale Golf Club

"Allendale Golf Club is a great place to play," one reader commented.

Another said the course is 'well looked after and you won't find better scenery on many courses'.

"Stunning views, lovely course,"someone else added.

In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the golf club was established in 1906 and signed up to the Wildwatch project that the North Pennines AONB initiated to help develop its wildlife heritage.

4 Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa, and Golf Resort

"Slaley Hall is best in the North East," one reader commented. 

With two Championship standard 18-hole golf courses, the prize-winning venue of Slaley Hall has enough to entertain the most enthusiastic golfers.

"Slaley Hall is a stunning course," another reader said.

Described as the Augusta of the North, the Hunting Course is among the finest Northumberland golf courses.

5 Hexham Golf Club

Other readers recommended Hexham Golf Club.

With a Grade 1 Listed building which was built on the site of the old medieval hospice of St Giles, Hexham Golf Club dates back to 1892.

Until 1906, the course was the town's only golfing facility.

The course is recommended for its good terrain, and good natural irrigation.

6 Matfen Hall

Matfen Hall was another reader recommendation for the variety of courses and the courses driving range.

"Mint condition and you get choices of three different loops of courses. Oh and a par course. Plus driving range," one reader said.

Set in more than 300 acres of mature parkland with established burns and woodland, the 27-hole course is highly rated.

There is also a par-3 short course, a golf academy, and a purpose-built clubhouse. 

7 Prudhoe Golf Club

Founded in 1930, the club is owned by its members.

The clubhouse opened in 1969 after the club initially began in 1930.

There are various competitions held throughout the week at the club and over the weekend. 

The courses include an 18 hole, a six hole pitch and putt.

8 Bellingham Golf Club

Established in 1893, the golf club was a nine hole course from its beginning until 1996.

Now an 18 hole course overlooking Bellingham, there are streams, ravines and specimen trees. 

There is a refurbished lounge and bar in the clubhouse.

9 Stocksfield Golf Club

Stocksfield is a Community Amateur Sporting Club with an 18 hole par 70 course.

There is a south facing sun deck for al fresco dining. 

As well as Sky Sports, the clubhouse has themed evenings and regular entertainment. 

Professional golfer Nicky Maddison was the Northumberland County Champion and is offering coaching sessions for both junior and full county players at the golf club.

10 Alston Moor Golf Club

The highest golf course in England, Alston Moor offers 18 holes of golf, over its 10 greens and 18 tee positions.

The club was founded in 1905.

The club is available for private parties and functions.
