A HOLIDAY club will take place in August for children to get involved in sports, games, and arts and crafts.

Full of Beans Children's Fitness and Sports Coaching North East franchisee John Paul Reay has organised a holiday club for children aged five to 11.

The holiday club will be held from 9am until 3pm on weekdays at Riding Mill Cricket Club, from Monday, August 1 until Friday, August 26.

There is also an additional wrap around option available for children to start at 8.30am and finish at 3.30pm, priced at £5 for each day.

From soft archery, basketball, cheerleading and tennis to yoga and dance, John Paul said there's plenty to keep children entertained.

"It's not going to be the same old football, we want to get more children in touch with more sports. We're trying to unite everyone to do physical sport and just have a go."

Taekwondo is also on offer, and John Paul said the coach, Simone Abley, is a seven times national champion who is looking to compete internationally.

John Paul said the sports will not be competitive and children will be learning new skills through trying new sports.

The club will have a structure, but John Paul says: "We'll try a bit of everything throughout the week and try to incorporate all sports into each day so everyone can experience it."

He said he wants to help children express their love for sports, or help them to find a new passion for a sport and potentially join a club.

"We might decide to stop and put our new skills to arts and crafts, to see what they took away from the sports and have a bit of fun with colouring pencils and glitter, to express their imagination away from sports."

There will also be music for the children to dance to.

"Parents can have peace of mind that children are building their confidence, seeing friends and making new ones, and trying different sports they may not see at school."

All coaches have been DBS checked.

The Children's Activities Association has also given the holiday club its stamp of approval.

The industry-led community interest company verifies health and safety standards are being met, along with safeguarding, to ensure organisations achieve a high standard of child welfare.

Children must bring a packed lunch, water bottle, and weather-appropriate clothing and sun cream if needed.
