A PARADE will take place in Hexham on Saturday, July 16.

Hundreds of soldiers will take to the streets as 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery (3RHA) exercises its Freedom of Northumberland.

A military band, approximately 300 service personnel, equipment and vehicles will be involved.

Civic Head for Northumberland County Council, Councillor Trevor Cessford, said: "This will be a fantastic and I'm sure moving event for Hexham and the people of Northumberland."

No waiting restrictions will be in place and all parking restrictions will be suspended on Beaumont Street and St Mary's Wynd with 'no waiting' traffic cones, from Friday, July 15 at 5pm to 11.30am on July 16, or until the parade has finished.

Where full road closures are not specified, a rolling road closure will be in place on July 16 from 10am to 10.30am.

This includes Chisholm Place, Priestpopple (A6079), Priestpopple (B6305), Cattle Market (B6305), Battle Hill (B6305) to Beaumont Street.

Priestpopple, Battle Hill, Cattle Market, and any other roads considered appropriate to the event, will have no waiting restrictions in place, from 5pm on July 15 until 11.30 the following day, or until the parade has finished.

'No waiting' traffic cones will be used on those roads to help traffic flow and event management.

The 3RHA was awarded the Freedom of the County in 2016, and the parade marks the second time it has exercised this freedom.

Coun. Trevor Cessford said: "To support our troops is not to be an advocate of war but it is to show our appreciation for what they do in the service of all of us, to let them know that we value them.

"That's why I'm hopeful that as many people as possible will turn out on July 16 to show 3RHA that we are proud of them and fully support their decision to parade through the streets of Hexham," he added.
