CHILDREN from a Hexham first school have raised enough money to run three of a cancer charity's ambulances for a month.
After a whole school skipathon, year three children at Sele First School continued their fundraising efforts for Daft as a Brush - the free cancer transport charity.
Pupils walked Newcastle and Gateshead's 'famous five' bridges, raising £3,000.
Daft as a Brush founder Brian Burnie joined pupils on the three-mile route, which takes in the Millennium, Swing, Tyne, High Level and Redheugh bridges.
Teachers from the school are also preparing to take on the Great North Run in a bid to boost the charity's funds as prices increase. The school is also planning to host a non-uniform day before the summer holidays.
Daft as a Brush completes some 50,000 cancer patient journeys each year with a team of over 400 volunteers and a fleet of some 40+ ambulances.
All donations and sponsorship monies received go directly to supporting cancer patients on their journey to recovery.
