A businesswoman is 'thrilled' to see girls' football 'growing' in Hexham as she continues to support a local team.

Zoe Philipson, of Hexhamshire and runs Tyne Valley Ices, currently sponsors Hexham Juniors Scorpions Girls U12 football team and is excited to see more girl taking an interest in the 'male dominated' sport.

"I have sponsored them for a few seasons," Zoe said.

"I choose the team simply because I thought it was great to be able to relate to the girls because I am a female in a typical male industry.

"I see most of the team when out and about which is always good fun.

"The team plays in the Northumberland Football League U12 Girls Division, which is a small but competitive league.

"It was our first season in a competitive league and the improvement throughout the season has been outstanding.

"Although we didn’t win any games, we did get a few draws.

"The girls always have a smile on their faces no matter what the result was.

"Girls football is growing in Hexham with some excellent players, so hopefully there will be three age groups next season U11, U12, and U14.

"All new players are welcome to join."
