POLICE are investigating after a car was said to be damaged in Hexham at the weekend.

Chris Brinton, of Oakwood, said he and his wife had parked at the West end of Tyne Green at 2pm on Sunday (June 19) as they were out to celebrate Father's Day and his birthday.

They left the car there overnight until 9.30am on Monday morning. Chris said when they returned, they found the car had been kicked and dented, and keyed on both sides.

"We were out with our son who was visiting us," said the 62-year-old. "We didn't want to drive the car which is why we left it overnight."

Chris said he is waiting for an estimate on how much it will cost to repair the damage, but said it will take "quite a bit of work."

"It's a bit disappointing when this kind of thing happens," he added.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Shortly after 10.20am on Monday (June 20) police received a report of damage to a parked car at the Tyne Green car park in Hexham. It was reported that the owner of a black Ford Fiesta had returned to their car after it had been parked overnight to find the bodywork had been damaged and scratched.
