A NORTHUMBERLAND restaurant has been named as one of the top 100 in the UK.

The National Restaurant Awards are sponsored by Estrella Damm, and the ceremony took place on Tuesday at London's Hurlingham Club.

Voted for by 200 industry experts from across the UK, including chefs, restaurateurs, critics and food writers, the prestigious list announced Michelin-starred Hjem in Wall was number 52.

Hjem was number 25 in last year's list.

The restaurant brings together Scandinavian simplicity and techniques with the best of local produce.

Hjem's website says they serve a tasting menu created from ingredients sourced from the surrounding farms and gardens of Northumberland.

The wines accompanying the menu are carefully selected by sommelier Anna Frost, to ensure the wine makers they work with respect the environment.

Serving an ambitious 15 to 18 course menu, Hjem is the product of Swedish chef Alex Nietosvuori, whose career includes time spent at Daniel Berlin's restaurant in Sweden, a three Michelin-starred restaurant in Oslo, and London restaurant The Laughing Heart.

Alex's partner Ally Thompson is a Northumberland native, and has previously managed restaurants in Australia, New Zealand, Copenhagen and London.

Earlier in the year, The Rat Inn in Corbridge made the list of the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs.
