A COMMUNITY-LED pub is hoping to extend its weekend licensing hours.

Alison Thomson, of The Gun at Ridsdale, has submitted a licensing variation application to Northumberland County Council.

The application states they would like to extend the licensing hours on Fridays and Saturdays until 1.30am.

The current hours for sale of alcohol are from 11am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and from 12pm to 10.30pm on Sundays.

Ms Thomson said: "Many of our weekend guests are wedding guests at the several nearby wedding premises and appreciate a staff presence when they return.

"Also, due to our rural location, there is no other facility for local residents and the community have asked us to provide this extension."

The pub also hopes to remain open until 1.30am on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

The Gun at Ridsdale, located on the A68, was purchased by the resident-led Ridsdale Community Group in May 2020 after raising £210,000 as part of its ‘Pub On A Thread’ campaign.

Ann Cleeves, author of the Vera series, shared the Gun’s story on social media which led to pledges to its Crowdfunding page from all over the world.
