A GIFT shop in Ponteland won the local Darras Hall Broadway Jubilee window decorating competition.

Carousel Gift and Card Boutique got a letter from Ponteland Town Council stating they had won the Jubilee window decorating competition on Tuesday, May 31.

The gift shop chose the theme of 'Crown and Coronation' to decorate their window.

The shop had four individual paintings in the window featuring a corgi dog, a crown, a carriage and a throne, painted by staff member Andrea.

There were also plenty of colourful crown and tiara balloons.

Janis Lydon has owned the business for 18 years, and said Ponteland Town Council wrote to all businesses in the area asking them to participate in the Jubilee window competition.

The prize was a monetary payment which Janis said will be shared around the staff, as it took them around nine hours to decorate the window while the shop was closed.

"We were delighted, everyone enjoyed it and it was nice to bring to the community. It's been a fantastic weekend, lots of customers enjoyed the window and other businesses took part as well," Janis said.

Andrea's royal paintings were donated to Rosewood Villa Nursing Home, as Janis said all of the shop's staff had experienced relatives living in care homes and they wanted to show their support.
