AN 18-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital after an alleged assault in Corbridge.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Officers are now appealing to the public for information.

Shortly before 11.20pm on Saturday, police received a report that a man had been assaulted outside the Golden Lion pub on Hill Street.

An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault and remains in police custody.

Detective inspector Sally-Ann Palace, of Northumbria Police, said: "Our investigation is well underway as we look to understand the full circumstances around what has happened. We know this is a busy location and we expect there to have been several witnesses to the assault.

"Therefore, I am now asking anybody who was in that area at that time on Saturday night and has information, and has not yet spoken to police, to get in touch.

"If you think you may know any information that can assist our investigation, please contact us as soon as possible."
