SHELL has taken out an injunction that prevents unlawful protest activities at its petrol stations.
Notices are attached to pumps at Heddon-on-the-Wall and Hexham alerting customers of the High Court order.
The company has said the injunction is to protect staff and customers from what it considers unsafe actions.
“Recently the safety of our employees, customers and business partners was put at risk by the actions of protestors at our headquarters, terminals and Shell forecourts", a Shell spokeswoman said.

"We respect the right of everyone to express their point of view, we only ask that they do so with their safety and the safety of others in mind. If anyone’s safety is put at risk, we do need to take action."
The notice warns that anyone in breach of the order will be in contempt of court and risks being imprisoned, fined or having their assets seized.
