HEXHAM'S MP is standing on the side of Keir Starmer and believes a simple apology should be significant enough.

MP Guy Opperman is the latest politician to have his say on whether or not Keir Starmer should resign from his position of Labour leader.

Mr Starmer is in the spotlight after The Sun released a picture of him drinking a beer with Labour workers in a party office in Durham on April 30, 2021.

The picture has since then caused controversy after Boris Johnson's outdoor party during lockdown.

Since the image has emerged, Mr Starmer has stated that he will resign if Durham Police find he is guilty of breaking any rules during lockdown.

“I don’t think Keir Starmer should resign over beergate," said Mr Opperman.

"He should apologise and move on.

"There are bigger issues to be dealing with."
