AN EVENT will be held at Hexham Abbey from Friday, June 10 until Sunday, June 19.

An event by Hexham Book Festival, Deception Island will transport visitors back to an Antarctic hut in the 1950's, based on a tiny caldera in the Antarctic Ocean.

Visitors will be immersed in poetry, sound and film.

The author will bring to life his experience - as the ship carrying his father edges through the basalt cliffs and into the calmer waters of Deception Island, the island's many voices, both human and non-human, begin to speak.

The event will be presented by Story Machine in collaboration with Elizabeth Lewis Williams, supported by Hexham Abbey and Northumberland County Council.

On Friday, June 10, the event will run at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm.

Also taking place on Friday will be the Funny Words Comedy Gala at the Spiegeltent, in the grounds of Hexham Abbey.

The Queen's Hall will present a line up of of top comedians showcasing the best of British comedy, including Rhys James, who is known for appearances on Mock The Week, Live at the Apollo, and Russell Howard's Stand Up Central.

Miles Jupp will perform a satirical tragicomedy story on Monday, June 16. Miles hosts Radio 4's The News Quiz, and performs material across a wide range of genres.
