YOUNG footballers have been presented trophies by former Liverpool and Leeds player Dominic Matteo.

Stocksfield Lions Under 8’s football team travelled to Flamingo Land to take part in a national tournament, finishing top of the league.

On Saturday, the Lions played three games against opposition from Yorkshire and Merseyside, winning all three games and scoring 21 goals - conceding only one.

On Sunday morning, they played a further two games, winning them both and scoring a further ten goals without replay.

Later that day, they played second-placed team Farmers Inter from Merseyside in the final.

Shortly after kick-off, the Lions took the lead and went on to win the game seven nil with goals from Harry Paisley and hat tricks from Rafe Robertson and Fletcher Tranter.

Matteo presented the team with the winner's cup and the fair play trophy to acknowledge their sporting behaviour - a credit to coaches Gary Tranter and Martin Barker - at an awards ceremony.
